DAMPAK EFISIENSI DI MEDIA TELEVISI TERHADAP JURNALIS KONTRIBUTOR: STUDI KASUS PENGURANGAN PROGRAM BERITA DI ERA DISRUPSI DIGITAL

Abstrak

This study aims to examine the impact of efficiency in the television media industry on contributing journalists, with a focus on the reduction of news programs in the era of digital disruption. This phenomenon is noteworthy given the significant changes in work structure and journalism quality resulting from efficiency policies implemented by television stations. The approach used in this study is a qualitative case study, with data collection through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation related to efficiency policies and contributor work contracts. The participants in this study were contributing journalists working for national television media affected by the reduction in news programs. The results of the study show that efficiency has led to a reduction in the working hours and income of contributing journalists, as well as creating social uncertainty and affecting the welfare of media workers. In addition, contributors have developed survival strategies by expanding their skills in digital media and social media. Workforce reductions also impacted the quality of news coverage. These findings enrich our understanding of the relationship between efficiency policies and journalism quality, highlighting the importance of balancing efficiency with content quality sustainability. This study contributes to Media Political Economy Theory and Media Dependency Theory, and provides recommendations for media industry policies to consider worker welfare without compromising the quality of journalism. Further research is recommended to explore in greater depth the digital adaptation of journalists in the face of technological disruption in the media industry.
